I don’t know about how other people feel but when i chose to get the GTO i’d selected from a shortlist that i’d made for myself and by the time i had decided i wanted one 100% i was VERY excited and the first thing i’ve learnt is always become a member of a forum if you own a car like this and the forum looked the best to join and £40 for a new membership was not the issue for me.
As a new member what i found made me hesitate and almost not join was the fact that the information for membership/half a years membership was a bit confusing (maybe just for me though) and someone also mentioned on one of the other posts about paying via PAYPAL.
If i could have paid via PAYPAL i would not have hesitated in the slightest as i have used it many times before, did not have to fill out a cheque (which i don’t use at all), i wouldn’t have had to convince myself that my money would be going to actually get me membership and wasn’t a hoax.
I think if you had an easier way of paying for membership you might gain more new memberships from other people; which from what i can tell from what i’ve read is reducing year on year. i don’t know anything about the logistics or cost implications that something like that would have but though i would add my opinion

No doubt it could be arranged people pay with paypal, but you will in cure a transaction fee which will up it again
I still look at it this way 58p a week for existing members and 76p for new members
To afford the extra tenner how about not getting excited with the throttle just for a couple of days a year, that will cover the cost very easily, or if your into buying parts, just keep thinking of the savings made through traders and members
I thought I’d just add a view from someone who is now in his second year of membership, has only been to 2 county meets, has never been to the AGM and at this moment in time, has no intention of doing so.
I joined this club the week before I bought my NA and paid £30 for the year. At that time, I had no idea how good or bad the club was or what I was getting involved in. I’d also never been a member of any other car forum before. I have since learned that the money sent to the club gets as much information, banter, help… (the list goes on)… you could possibly need from people on here and is absolutely essential in my eyes. I have no idea where I would be with my car now if it wasn’t for ‘INVESTING’ that small fee in this club.
The whole cheque book thing is a bit of a pain but hey, that means I have to get off my arse and find my cheque book once a year. It’s no biggy to be fair.
In summary, I hope everyone that attends the AGM has a cracking time and I look forward to handing over the well deserved subscription fee for many years to come. Even if it is a tenner or so more.
I think the biggest reason for the cheque being used is to keep things simple.
If you consider the commitee members have to sift through several hundred membership forms alot of which have the wrong username or other details on they then just bank the payment enclosed. Now imagin if they had to tie up a membership form incorrectly filled out with a random paypal payment, it would be almost impossible.
Its not great using a cheque and alot of banks are withdrawing them totaly now so things will eventually have to change but in the mean time it does make life easier for the renwals to have a payment with a form. On a plus side it will remove the rubber cheque’s that some people send in.
ohh man i find some of these posts hilarious(if thats how you spell it  )
the xx amount per week doesnt work im afraid
i hate writing big speels of usless ■■■■ as you can see on my many posts and im considering renewing my subscription now but i couldnt afford it this month(the extra tenner) as ive spent over 100 quid on my other club this month so i find it hard as im on a basic ■■■■ wage every month that can keep my beloved gto on the rd.so ill send a cheque next month if thats gonna be ok ,hopefully. good club and some very nice guys on board that ive met and spoke to on the phone over the years ,but the sites been not very good reciently .cant make the big trips down south wish i could, furthest ill get this year is lincoln to the rscs.skint  4 shows in 1 month, may then many more to show the gto off.ill try and keep interest but some of these posts are well ott. keep up the good work guys
Well clearly I’m not according to Sir Simon, he said if I send
in my renewal form and cheque he would just send it straight back to me … I,m chilled
look on the bright side you wont be spending the extra tenner then ,
ahh thats nice to see ,sticking up for your fellow tight arse ,bless ,
yes more sarcasm ,i am low and quite witty , thats it now no more comments from me i shall now be taking the moral high ground and refusing to be drawn into an argument right where,s me steps
look on the bright side you wont be spending the extra tenner then ,
You know the sad thing is, the money was never the issue for me, it was the principle!
If you note I have never posted hard luck stories on here saying I have to sell my car, PLEASE talk me out of it or feel sorry for me, unlike some of the new brigade of owners like yourself and quite a few of your new found friends.
I’d go as far to suggest that in a few years time there might be as many members that no longer own gto’s on here as the one’s that actually do. That’s not necessarily a bad thing for you though, as the social side of the club could take over!!! … who knows they might even rename the club after you!
 what a good idea , i like the sound of that i shall be putting that forward at the next agm .as i,m such a top bloke that might just take off ,
cheers dude
id just like to say the agm was a wonderful day , the only thing that spoilt it was me having to get a taxi from the Reading exit on the M4 as i had reached my 100 miles limit and we all know that mitsubishi didnt design these cars to go further than that in one journey
Thankfully everybody has choices or as me other commitments/priorities in life.
I take my GTO to TEN OF THE BEST every year If you are really that bothered by me not using it?? …I’m sure other members that I have meet there could vouch for that if you need proof! …I also go on numerous pistonhead runs throughout the year and do the odd track-day, is that ok with you??? :?
I’m glad you and everyone that attended the AGM had a good time!! but as my insurance is a limited mileage policy I have to make choices and unfortunately the AGM is not that high on my priority list, simple as that.
