Newbie looking for a GTO

Hi guys

New to the site and on the hunt for a GTO

I’ve always fancied them and had alsorts of performance jap cars, so decided to take the plunge and try to get myself a GTO, I’m currently selling a Legacy GT-B so once that’s gone I’ll be buying

Mike

Welcome mate to the world of gto ownership and empty wallets

Thanks guys

Why do you say empty wallets lol, I’ve heard the maintenance cost can be bad, but I’ve owned RX7/8’s, skylines, evos, Subaru, surely they can’t be any worse… Hopefully lol

Hi welcome to the club.
Be sure to have a good read through the buyers guide

Always ask if you have questions and even post up adverts of cars your looking at :-).

Thanks bud appreciate it

Definitely take butlers advice. I printed the buyer’s guide off read it several times highlighting key points and took it with me when I went to view various gto’s and 3000gt cars - I’ve now been the proud owner of mhorag ever since! :grinning:

Nice one, she’s a beauty

What’s the highest spec one you can get?

Well as standard stock there are non turbo manuals and automatics which are all gto imports. In the UK only the top end twin turbo all leather interior model was sold - you will see lots of cars listed as 3000gt’s but are actually gto imports. Mine is a UK spec version

Couple of easy ways to spot a Gto rebadged is
Rear number plate must be uk style
Headlight washers
Only came in leather

Gto seats have seat belt retainers on the top , active exhaust switches in the dash , lots of japaneese writing where you would expect english lol

So what’s the top end I should be going for? Lol

Well I suppose it’s a matter of opinion - when I decided to buy one of these cars last year as a minimum I wanted a twin turbo with leather seats. But I know some members have very nice n/a models. As for cost you can pick them up for around 3k but expect work to be needed. Otherwise nice well maintained to end models can be got for anything from 5 to 10k and above.

Oh really? As much as that, ok I’m looking for something standard but with the potential to get big power, in the region of about 4/500bhp

What you guys think of this car?

Non Turbo :unamused:

Mk3 car (hoop spoiler and front bumper)
Looks nice but would take quite a lot of money to push this in to the 500bhp mark I think. Remember the cars about 1.8 tons I think, not sure if the mk3s are a bit lighter?

Always concerned that someone who advertises it as a vr4 hasn’t done enough reading as vr4 was the term used for an American twin turbo set up.

As the guys have said its n N/A , nice looking car though , must admit I was ways a TT man but did think if I ever had another for a daily drive I’d look at a non turbo manual

Craig

Yeah I think it’s going to have to be a tt I go for as I’m looking to get at least 400 out of it, just out of curiosity, what would it take to get a standard tt doing that kind of power?
