Meeting number 3…looking towards the end of the month or early June. There is another Crail event on Sunday 27th May…a biggy by all accounts…Max Power Day…so I guess if we thought there were too many Barries last Sunday then imagine what that will bring!
If we wanted to avoid that then maybe a meeting in the Perth, Stirling or Livingstone areas would be a good compromise…say meeting up at lunchtime for something to eat, an orange juice and beard stroke…then we have one of the more local lads plan a nice drive for a couple of hours before we head off home. I will look into what other events may be on that weekend in the areas listed above that we could drop into perhaps.
Looking ahead, how about this summer we try to do a two day event…West Coast tour or Isle fo Skye/Applecross sort of thing, book into a B&B on route and aim to finish Sunday early afternoon to allow us all to get home…if we have GTO tollerant partners then it could be a his and hers couple of days as long as they can read a map…Ad087, we can get you fixed up in time for this event I am sure Chooch will bring along one of his ex girlfriends too and I promise to leave the kids at home this time
I’m easy about our next meeting. I think you could right about the max power day - could be somewhat chavy! We could always head to an event at knockhill? As for a two day event I like the sound of Skye. Been there once before and would love to go again. And just think of the photo opportunities we would have!
I’ll look into Skye accommodation as it can be stupid to find places in July/August time…and going over the bridge for a visit cost £5 each way on the bridge…but its lovely over there I have to admit! Id also love to have a photo of all the cars lined up with Eilen Donan Castle in the background on the way to Skye!!!
Theres a good hotel at Ballaghulish too that could be a good option…the Pink Plane will as always provide air cover on route!!!

I’ve been on Skye, stayed at the Flodigarry Country House Hotel. It’s right up in the north east corner and is a stunning location. Not cheap though. Food was first class. Also the toll has been scrapped. Costs nothing now.
I vote we try and get the leader of our merry band see if we could get a group rate somewhere in Skye. We might even consider letting some of the English members coming? How about we set a separate thread for this one - make it mid/late August?
Sounds good to me…lets give it a day or two and get an idea of numbers and then I am happy to get my negotiating head on. Brilliant that the toll has been scrapped at last…bastards! Im going to drive to and fro across that bridge about 10 times to claw my money back!!! £5 each way!!!
Lets get numbers of the Scottish folks first and then see if any Englishmen (Im English) feel the desire to travel up and eat haggis, wear skirts and drink whiskey!!!
i’m up for a run to applecross/skye for the weekend
dont think i’ll be going back to crail, fed up with it,unless i get a tt and go to one of the quieter run what you brung days.
remember there are a couple of events coming up in july /august(tayside classic car show at errol airfield and chatlerahault classic auto rally, near hamilton )
trying to arrange some runs with the revdevils i have been talking to andy(one of the members, with the silver supra) and he says they go for runs every weekend ususally a sunday but they do weekenders like skye aswell
I notice that Mark and Andy have tickets for JAE. This is obviously a big event, especially with the rest of club attending too… Should we try and make this the highlight of the year?
Scott, I quite liked Crail, but could not stay there all day - If you know what I mean … It’s a shame I couldn’t stay longer, but I didn’t see the point coming back when I went out for lunch. It was just SO busy I doubt I’d have got parked anywhere near you guy’s. My Volvo’s EGR system failed (2nd time in 4mths), when I decided to pull the rocker cover off my GTO, so I was left without a car for few days (just got the Volvo back today) so I didn’t have time to buy a BBQ & food Those burgers looked nice mmm…
Skye does sound good, but I bet it’ll take a bit of organising… Mark, if you want to delegate some duties feel free. With my current job I’m free to go away as and when I like, but I believe your going to a month on month off rotation Mark? In which case a two monthly meet would be suitable, especially if we are planning big things…
If we do decide upon a big event like Skye or JAE, then we should also consider smaller more managable meets that others such as Ally and other Scottish owners can attend.
JAE would be great to go as a group obviously but I didn’t want to make anyone feel that we should organise it as one of our regular meetings as it is a fair old trek down and back…but it would be brilliant if we coudl get a few more scottish cars down there…
Currenty Andy087, myself and I noticed GTO Ally intend going down, sounds like you are tempted too Ewan! I start in London Monday to Friday on june 4th and I am not sure how long that will be for before going 28/28 in Kazakhstan (I watch Borat this weekend)!!!
I am looking into a suitable route for the Applecross/Skye route (Skye is not the best place for us to go touring and to stay overnight really, but there are good options around this as Scott knows).
I agree that Crail lacks a little class (bloody snob) and the GTO section seemed to get a more refined clientel! The 1/4 was great but the queue was crap so we may need to find some alternative venue!
Scott, the historic shows you mentioned sound like good options and that gives us an excuse to get down to your neck of the woods too!
In summary - I’ll persue the weekend tour for later in July and August. We should meet up later this month but not Crail either half way between or in the area of Edinbugh/Glasgow. JAE is July 21/22 and all are welcome but you need to get your bids in for tickets now with J@mes on the thread in this section if you want them at £11 a piece, thats £4 cheaper than gate price.
We can tke copious amounts of Tennents, Buckfast and fly lots of Saltires I guess to make our spot! Wearing of kilts and desert boots would be optional but encouraged, head butting of anyother nationality is clearly frowned upon, See You Jimmy hats are not to be worn on a Sunday!
We have another member new to GTO’s in Aberdeen who may be interested but I know he works offshore.
Scott - we can talk car shows and combining with the Revdevils offline…
Soltires and Kilts sound good for JAE! How about Stirling or Perth for our next meeting. Some nice scenery and roads around there. I couldn’t see anything on at Crail that would be that good for us. Anyone know if there is anything good on at knockhill anytime soon that we could go to?
I know what you mean about Crail. If I get down for a mag day, I don’t go on the track as it’s just too busy. I just go to see all the cars. I much prefer the RWYB days as they are much quieter and you can get more runs in. Not that I’ve done many. For anyone that can make it JAE is the best show of the year and well worth the trip.
Wallace Performance do power runs for £50, which includes 2 runs and if your doing a RR day with 1 -10 cars £35 per run.
Jap performance do a similar thing where one run costs £55 and £40 per run if part of a shootout(minimum 10 people) - I’ve heard good feedback about these guy’s
I would like to put my car on the rollers as a point of interest. If anyone else feels that they would like to do this, maybe we could organise a session. I beleve Ad087 and sspiper have recently dyno’d thier cars, and I’m guessing Ally you’ll have your car dyno’d by Sumiyaka.
That leaves myself Mark, stav23 and some of the new Aberdeen / Scottish owners… What do you think???
If my cars back before you arrange this, I’ll still come and do the dyno. Good to get another dyno to compare
I’ve heard good things abot Jap Performance as well. My mates been there with the Scooby guys.
Ally
Yeh, my mate was there with the scooby guy’s too… It seems they really explain what’s happening etc… and give advice where required…
Although we’d need 10 cars to make it worthwhile using Jap Performance… I’m sure if we invited a few friends too we’d make it…
Is everyone free on Sunday 27th May…options I think we have looked at so far is that Chooch, sspeiper myself, maybe Gump, GTO Ally and anybody else we find up here, drive down to Perth or Stirling area to meet the guys south of us…find a nice place to eat lunch and then do a drive around that area and beard stroke a little! Or we look into booking a rolling road session either in Edinburgh/Glasgow or Aberdeen…can’t remember where your suggested place was Andy?
I’ll sounds out Wallace and Jap Performance about availability and prices…Andy can you do the same please if you have a place in mind?
27th of may sounds good to me ,bank holiday monday,i should be up at pitlochry at my van so perth would suit me then we could take a run up to my van to noise up the neighbours and for some refreshments, then killikrankie to the soldiers leap or down the dam at pilochry and a walk round the salmon ladder,or if you like mark we could visit the distillery in pitlochry i know you like a tipple, single malts
just a suggestion plus i dunno if they like autos on the rollers,i’d like to find out the power tho
