Eurospec Dyno Run Day

cambelt done 4 months ago then week after i did 1st run then just done this 1

A great day, and I don’t just mean my result!
Well done Ben & Mark and others at Eurospec and Ian for orgnaising it.
Acouple of photos:

Well its a MASSIVE thanks to Ben and the crew who ran the day…and not forgetting Ian who prob went mad trying to sort out us lot for the last month or so…

Was a great turnout and some lovely looking cars there. Em and i had a very good day…even if she did need a little kip in the GTO with the heater on  Nice to see a few of the older faces and some of the newer ones too.

I was well chuffed with my readings and from what i gather was around 3rd highest reading of the day…even with MEGA knock count and very very lean running.

We think we know where the knock was coming from (spark related) as IDC’s still had more than enough to go. Knock was only above 5500 but was well into the 20’s

AFR was also running pretty lean at around 13 and low fuel trim is sitting at 117% so i have a vacuum leak somewhere. Given all that we still dyno’ed the car but kept it below 5500rpm where knock kicked in like mad…

STOCK…9B’s :!:
STOCK 360’s :!:

well according to the results on the photo the Lowest TT result was only down 23 bhp from std, whereas the average NA loss is 46 bhp below std.

Robert.

some1 said something about a controler to try to get that bottom slope reduced

Paul and Ivan, we’ll have to arrange a second day providing we can all get our cars sorted. Or more importantly providing I still have mine!!

If you look at your afr trace its pretty much banging on the door of a 13 afr up to about 4500k, and it then drops off down to an 11.5

11.5 is pretty much where you would map a turbo car, they need more fuel to cool the cylinder to prevent knock. On an NA, you run leaner mixtures. Peak power is generated with a mixture of about 12.5 to 12.8. Ideally thats where you want to be with your foot on the boards.

So something simple like an afc controller would allow you to lean out that top end and generate a bit more power, but ultimately its a bit.

Cheers,

Ben.

By the way, just in case people ever pondered on this one:-

The drive split front to rear. I for a long time assumed it was 60/40 favouring the rear.

We graphed one of the cars front vs rear power, its nearly bang on 50/50 at all times.

Cheers,

Ben.

Well me and Jean have just got home after a really great day. We met some really nice people some new faces as well as the old ones.
I have to admit that I was a little bit disapointed with my result but it was due to the spatk plugs needing to be changed but both Ben and Mark were so careful with it not straining the nuts off of it, I trust them impecably if that is the right expression and it will soon be going back down to be fixed and have another go.
Thanx goes out to Ian for organising this event and obviously to all at Eurospec for dedicating a whole day and some to fit everyone in. :praise: :praise:

ben were all the cars run in 3rd gear :? im going back on the hypertech ,dyno dynamics rr, next month and it was run in 3rd the last time.just want to make sure

some good results there ,looked a good long day 8)

Yep, all of them in third mate.

I posted an explanation of when/why it matters what gear you run in on another thread, but basically yes, on a DD for our cars, they should be run in third. (Max power will be produced between 80 and 120mph)

Cheers,

Ben.

hi,
firstly i would like to say thanks to ian for organizing the rolling road,
also it was good to see all the freindly faces again, richie etc,
then a big thanks to benh, for his great set up he has, today he was proffessional, patient, and would reccomend him to anyone,
it wasnt my first experiance at a rolling road, but with my own car it was,
i had a few issues with the ecu and knocking which explained the lack of horsepower,
ime not embarrased with the figure i came out with, ime just glad that i didnt stay at home and leave it parked in my garage thinking it was perfect,
benh explained everything to me in great detail as we were going through the test, which i needed because ime not a great mechanic,
ive got what you call phantom knocking which as experts know will still upset the ecu,
something loose around the outside of the engine block, perhaps engine mounts, loose nuts at the back of the plenum, etc.
its not internal so it can be fixed very quickly, but the main problem lies when i had my heads scimmed after the head gasket whent 5 years ago,
which apperently they dont like.
but one thing he did say was, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your engine,
a great relief,
i took a lot of flak off my 2 brothers before today, they are both mechanics,
comments like, your wasting your time and money, theres no point its only an n/a,
also there will be gto,s there with a lot more hp than yours especially tt,s.
ive proved them wrong,
but,ive learnt so much today, now ime looking forward to finding my missing horsepower, and seeing benh and all at eurospec again, and going faster,
cheers…russ

What an interesting day, i can understand jason’s disapointment as his car had not been changed from his previous dyno. Weird!
But a nice friendly turn out by Benn Mark Karen etc and Ian .

I had to wait until the very end to get my van put on the dyno but is so weird it produced exactly the same figures as Jasons car! Strange its only a Deisel Escort. Anyway sadly the the printer ran out of ink so i have no sheets to show anyone!

A fun day it was Ray

Ray, did anyone ever tell you , your such a ■■■■■■ wind up merchant
Actually I was hiding when they did your van and when you left I got Ben to put a few timing belts round the rollers so that I could use it as a treadmill and I produced more power than Andre`s and yours put together :stir: :stir:

A good day, many thanks, ■■■■■■ cold though!!

Oh, it was such fun crawling back the whole way home at 50-60MPH with a spacesaver-clad Starlet behind me. I even had a standard Celica crawl past about 2 MPH faster looking at me like, what’s wrong with it…

Typically, not needing the sidelights, they worked fine all the way.

Great day out . Thanks to the Eurospec crew for putting on a great day and doing there best to get the most from our cars . I was pretty embarased by my rather low power 257 for a turbo although the 320 ftlbs of torque is quite nice , apparently its running to rich and coming off boost too soon , something ive thought for a while but good to hear from somebody that really knows. Gives me a good idea of what to do next anyway (boost and fuel controller). I was surprised to see exactly how buckled one of my wheels was as it really shows on the rollling road causing many surprised gasps and points , not least of which from me , then discovering most of my wheel nuts were loose caused even more embarrasment as i wasnt really trying to kill everyone with rogue loose wheels.
At the end of the day it was well worth the 2 hour drive from ipswich and when i have more bits and more cash , Eurospec will be doing some work to my car. Well done to those that had good results and to those of you like me that got something less than they expected im looking forward to fixing the problems and trying again next time.
Now all thats left is to tell the pregnant wife that we cant buy anything for the baby yet as i need to spend it on the car , wish me luck

Many thanks to Ian and the Eurospec guys. A really enjoyable and informative day!

Firstly I want to thank Ben, Mark and Karen for putting on such a great day and for all their hard work especially on a Sunday.

Ian, I would like to thank you for your time and effort to arrange and organise it for us.

What an experience! That is only the 2nd ‘meet’ I have been to and to see all those GTO’s together was just great.

It was fantastic to see the heart and soul that has gone in to them…this coming from someone who struggles to wash his GTO! I wish I knew how you guys do it.

My chin hit the floor when I saw ChazzB’s, I can’t even contemplate the effort and expense that has gone into that car let alone the vision to achieve it…amazing!

My jaw hit the floor when i saw 610 ft lbs + of torque Andre!

Well done mate, you got the trophy!

Cheers,

Ben.
