Well it was certainly an experiance!
gotta say i wasnt impressed by the totb organisation this time round- we got so many mixed messages it wasnt true, but the day itself was amazing!
Some really nice cars there and some really crazily fast stuff. Olly clarke was baninging out 1.5 sec 60’s all day as far as i could make out.
Dell did fantasitcally on the handling circuit and out on the strip. Not only that but he drove the car there, and home all in one bit, and that as those who have done the event know, takes some doing!
We had a really mixed day. 100% compulsory noise testing. Limit 103 dbs for the road class cars, 112 for pro and proven 10 sec street cars. i knew i wouldnt pass 103, but i should have been able to go in for the higher (undisclosed before event day) limit. Nah. Have to ‘book’ that in advance. Of course i hadnt!
Not that it mattered because on the noise test i came in at 114db!
Lots of scavenging and drilling later an sporting an exhaust bung with a 1 and a half inch hole in it from a blown up MR2 (Thank you so much!! 8) ) it passed noise at 99db.
Just one problem though- naff all power out of a pipe that size! At 50% duty cycle i was only just pushing 1.3 bar. The TPS sh@t itself, but luckily Mick was on hand with his car for it to be ‘borrowed’! Managed an 11.2 or something.
Without saying too much, their was then a freak exhaust related incident that miraculously cleared the restriction created by the bung
And it went off like a fappin rocket! Going down the strip i could see bonnet and sky! One of the I/C pipes blew off at around the 1/8th and i coasted over the line for a 10.91 @114. If it hadnt, who knows!
That was the end of the day for me, with only 30 mins to run i didnt have time for the bay to cool enough to clamp the bangalor back down.
So we had a great day out, great to see so many faces their and as always thank you all for your help!
Shame about the noise restriction being so low. Put a real dampner on it for a lot of people and many couldnt run at all. Hey ho, already though of a way round it for next year.
Cheers,
Ben.
